Well it depends on the nature of the "goof". All accounts are handled electronically so the possibility of human error when it comes to accounting is close to zero. What may have happened is if you made a deposit or a withdrawal at the bank, they credited or debited your account with the incorrect amount. To prove that this has happened you would need your receipt from when you went to the bank. Teller mistakes happen more often than you would think, so always check to make sure the numbers are right.

You should also go through your own records to make sure that you're the one that goofed. If you don't keep up with your account, especially with debit cards and automatic payments, it is very easy to lose track of how much money you really have. If your bank has online banking, that's the best way to keep track of your balances daily. You might also want to check if your lowered balance isn't because of another fee that they charged you. Many banks are notorious for charging fees.

Do you keep all your statements? Do you bank online? I actually had this happen to me recently, but I caught it because I religiously check my account online and saw that they charged me two overdraft charges, when I only deserved one. I called them and told them about it. They said it happened because a charge was pending to my account, but never actually posted and they had pinned an overdraft fee on my account for that. That charge never posted, it was withdrawn, but my bank never took back the fee that they charged me for it. I don't know if that helps, but I figured I would try.

Get all your statements, find the negative spots, and look at the overdraft charges and see if they all are legitimate. Hope this helps. Good luck!
