What is the song about a guy who is just not part of the cool crowd? It is by a Ben Folds Five type band.?

I heard this song on the radio a few months ago. I think the guys was singing about wanting to be cool, but he isn't. I think there was something about being a dj. It is by a Beck or Ben Folds Five type band/singer. Or, maybe I am just crazy :)
