I was born and raised in the US and I don't get it either.
I think the real explanation is that certain companies make huge profits from war (selling weapons to the government, etc.). Check out the stock price of Halliburton since the US invaded Iraq.

Whoa. there 'sweet'...Ms. Rice was over there trying to get both sides to meet and quit the fighting. To say that America was wanting them to fight is just ignorant. NO ONE.. absolutely no one wants to see countries go to war, to see their soldiers die and families suffer. However, I guess the misconception in the US and obviously all over the world is that America has a hand in everything. Wrong. Who are we to tell Israel and Lebanon to behave? Israel has a right to defend themselves against the onslaught of terrorism, just as much as we do.
As for the question above..America has problems, the problem isn't America. Countries need to start standing up for themselves and quit calling on us for help. But like the good neighbors / allies that we are... we are always willing to lend a hand. Some of our great leaders today have learned from the past and are fighting hard to keep our constitution intact and to keep the values that created this great nation. However, we have a lot of bad seeds in our Congress that are very liberal, worry more about money, worry more about how we look to the world and to their voting public then what is righteous, moral, patriotic.
There is poverty in the US.. how about some celebrities throwing some money to the poor and hungry here?! Our education system is horrible, which is why we now have a generation of ignorant, ebonic speaking, money hungry, looking for a handout at every turn thug-type/ gangstas who wouldn't know a 'work ethic' if it slapped them in the face. Democracy.. no, we are a republic and we might be self-sufficient as a nation compared to third world countries, but the majority of the people who live here are ungrateful, irresponsible and unpatriotic.
Maybe I'll move to India. :-)

I don't think Desert Storm was a mistake. Saddam Hussein sent the Iraqi army into Kuwait and we kicked them out. Bush Sr. had the foresight to see that we could not easily occupy Iraq, so we signed a ceasefire after we accomplished our objective of getting the Iraqi army out.
We also do have poverty in the US. Not as much as in India, but we do have our homeless and our poor.
The US does these things because they are trying to maintain world stability. Vietnam and Afghanistan were to limit the spread of communism and Soviet influence.
It is our current administration that cannot learn from past mistakes. I voted against him, so don't blame me, although I don't know that Kerry would have been a significant improvement.

explanation why Spanish is taught is interior america, the biggest minority team in the U. S. are human beings of Latino/Hispanic descent (i've got faith). no person's taking it because of the fact they are gonna be some bigshot corporation guy, yet because of the fact its useful. I stay in the West (California) and there are various (yet they arent maximum folk). Plus Spanish is extremely worry-free to earnings. It has some words such as English with some comparable structural grammar factors. to boot, i'm undecided in case you wanna learn French. French all and sundry is snooty as hell. i'm severe right here. there is a few thing incorrect with those human beings. FRANCE isn't the midsection FOR each and every thing ANYMORE. recover from your self. German sounds terrible. have you ever heard it. It appears like somebody has foil caught of their throats.

America makes money off of wars. There not going to stop. They dont care about the people who die and the family's that suffer so that the already rich people can make more money.
When i was in Lebanon during the 2006 war, every country wanted them to stop fighting, except for America. And i couldn't believe it,.....people were dieing and they didnt care. But i mean hey what do you expect from a rich as hell country.

The United States was not involved in the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and our attack on Iraq in the 1990's was a UN sponsored international action in response to Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. Just to clarify a few things for you.
The simple answer is: the enemy of my enemy is my friend. We have befriended some pretty nasty characters in the past because they were anti-Nazi, anti-Communist, or now anti-Muslim extremist.

The people in the US government are power-mad, but the people won't indulge their inclinations (and they're armed), so politicians have to go outside the borders to satisfy their largest cravings.
