My baby (7 weeks?) ball, Dante, whom I have had for about 2 weeks, makes very quiet noises when he breathes, It's so quiet I have to turn off all noise and hold him up to my ear to hear it.
The sound is like a small pop, like something being opened and it isnt very frequent, i looked up all the typical RI signs, he isn't bubbling at the mouth or anything. To note again the sound is so faint, I don't know what to think. Dante is very active it doesn't seem like he is having any difficulties breathing, I'm just worried.... Can someone please give me imput.

He has been eating regularly, I fed him a pinky on friday and he ate him no problems, he didn't regurgitate him, to hear the sound I need to hold him practically in my ear. I'll take him to the vet for a check up asap.

i think your snake is healthy, is it breathing holding his mouth open? also i have had a snake get RI and he WOULDN'T eat at all until the injections i had to give him cured the RI. plus i have 2 large columbians also and they hiss when they breath so your baby might just be hissing as it moves, but on another note ... does the pinkie leave a noticeable bulge in Dante? their meal should leave a bulge, both of my balls were taking small adult mice at that age and were started on hoppers by the breeder. are they rat pinkies?
besat of luck to you and dante

I have a ball python, and I can hear him breathing if i listen closely. (he is somewhat large though) However, popping noises should not be heard. I had a cornsnake a while back that got an RI and by the time he was bubbling at the nose it was too late, an hour after i saw bubbles he died at the vet. Is he still eating well? You say he is active, so that is good. If he is new to you, an initial exam by a reptile vet wouldnt hurt. If that is not an option for you right now, then keep his tank very warm.. there should be a basking area of about 90 degrees. When snakes get a RI increased heat is necessary. So if you have a basking area, he can easily get to it if need be. Also, hydration is important. You obviously cant force him to drink, so if you have a small spray bottle, fill it with warm water and spray down his body (avoid the face!) This will help with hydration. Snakes only have one working lung, this is why RI are so fatal, so quickly! So watch him close, if you see any signs (not moving much, bubbles from nose or mouth, regurgitated food, dehydration etc) get him to the vet immediately. If he is dehydrated his skin will become loose, and it will fold at the sides... hope all goes well!
