FDR cheated on Eleanor AND HIS KIDS by having an affair with "Lucy."

FDR's MOM warned him that she would disown him if he continued to see Lucy or deserted Eleanor and the kids.

It seems pathetic for a world leader to be taken behind the woodshed like that by his mother for his actions.

Is that what leads Dems to call him "great"?

FDR's mom also said she would kick him out of her will.

Very sad!

What made Franklin Delano Roosevelt the greatest President since Abraham Lincoln was that he led the United States, and the rest of the world with it, through the incredibly painful process of rebuilding the economy after it came unwound in 1929. Despite being handicapped, and confined to a chair, he took the mess big business made and got things moving again.

If that were not enough, he also had the foresight to see what the Second War was leading to, and was able to build the managed economy required to defeat fascism while preserving the free market for both business and labour. When the US was attacked, his was the choice of commanders and priorities, and the end results show how good he was.

"Great" damns the man with faint praise.

It amazes me that you are so blindly partisan you are prepared to denigrate one of your nation's greatest heroes simply because his politics differ slightly from yours.

Shame on you! This is exactly like the sordid rumourmongering about all of JFK's supposed affairs. The man was a hero, a wounded veteran who served his country faithfully by his lights, stood up for freedom when he had to and was killed in his country's service. Are political points important enough to gain by slandering the dead?

Julius Caesar may be the greatest Roman, but throughout his career he was slandered and defamed by the jealous conservatives Cato and Bibulous. His liberalism may have been their target, but history has showed that their true motive was envy of the better man, and political spite. Do we see the analogy?

No man is perfect. Some are unfaithful to their wives; some betray the public trust for gain; some obstruct justice. It seems to me that even if FDR and JFK are guilty of adultery, there is a long way to go before they could reach the abuses of office practiced by Warren Gamaliel Harding and Richard Nixon.

So, your argument lacks any evidence. It is unpatriotic and spiteful, which I regret to say reflects very poorly on your character. Further it overlooks the very serious crimes committed by conservative Republicans while ignoring the great legacy left behind by a great American, who happened to be a liberal Democrat.

Finally, that you even dared to raise it shows your complete ignorance of your own history, without which you cannot understand the present. Because it is inconvenient to your political creed you decry and debase the man whose wisdom and energy led your country from poverty to greatness. Give your head a shake.

It's normal to call them as you see them, but the old adage about he who is with out sin can throw the first stone. So you shouldn't throw that stone if you & yours have sinned. I am not in any way, shape or form a fan of George Bush & friends. They have did harm to this country that will be years before things can be corrected. As bad as he has been the way we chose our leaders don't mean that the next one will be any better. At best we can only vote for someone & hope we chose right.

Watch your step. That was half a century or more ago.
There is plenty of garbage in the past re: republican
past greats also. If you wish, I can give you
some good reminders. Personally, I prefer to live in
the present. If you are trying to defend the position of
your party by a paragraph in a dusty old history book,
that only magnifies the fact that there is little in the
present that you can justly defend.
