my 2 kids ages 4 and 7 will be staying at grandmas the whole summer. The problem is they only watch tv all day ,they won't go outside (she's old and won't do it...trust me) and my 2 brothers who are living there have bipolar so they're no fun to be around. My husband and I work so I feel awful doing this to them this summer. My mom is a great caregiver but she's not going to stimulate them by taking them out, doing arts and crafts etc....if i tell her to not let them watch tv all day it will be ignored..I appreciate any advice. thank you

YMCA provides day camps where I live, my kids went for years....it was relatively inexpensive and they did lots of fun things...

You can set up your kids activities if you start by getting learning games, color books, puzzles, and things that they like to do set up before you take them to your Mom. If you do this with things they like doing, then you can use markers or labeled tags to place on the items for the days that you want them to do them. Try to get things that both your kids like and some they can do together and they will have more fun. Also, write down the programs with the times and days that you want them to look at on TV that are their favorites to give your Mom too. The least she can do is use the list if she's going to let them look at TV mostly. As far as going outside, if there's a fence, maybe she'll be willing to sit outside for a couple of hours to let them get some fresh air, just ask her.
Hopefully, this may help.

You should check into some kind of program that offers financial assistance to people who cannot afford summer camps. I know they are out there because I have heard of them. Try googling and see what you can come up with. Kids need some way to get out all of that pent up energy over the summer. Best of luck!!

Look into the community centers around your mother's house, some offer free summer camps or afternoon programs, the same with some parks.

Maybe the parks around her house offer day camps. They are cheap and will get the kids outdoors each day.

You can prepare games and projects for them to take with them to Grandma's everyday.

Let your children know that you can't wait to see what they did when you get home from work every night.
