It took us decades to recover from the debacle in Viet Nam and they did not follow us home to continue the war on American soil. These enemies will not be so timorous. This congress should be called the Cowardly Congress and all impeached for being gutless.

Unlike the others who answered: I couldn't agree with you more. I was in the military the first time we went over there and my son will soon be leaving for that land. I agree we may have picked the wrong country to start with, but, We need to fight there instead of here. We are too wimpy to fight here. We would be second guessing every time a gun was fired and would lose before we started.

Im sure many would rather serve in the military without the reckless use of soldiers in foreign countries. The only reason I'm not joining the national guard (which is supposed to be for doing work inside of the country) is because national guard gets sent off into Iraq, Afgahnistan, etc.

I'm not worried about the congress I'm more worried about the continued feminization of the US male population. At some point there will be no one MAN enough to defend this country. At that point a less feminized culture will walk in and take over.

They're lowering standards for military, accepting criminals, cutting training short, short changing supplies/armors. We can continue that or bring troops home.

The congress is saying bring them home, instead of having them work overtime with short supplies.

Don't you think it is cowardly they think it is the greatest struggle and draft is not even in the picture?

If they want to deal with it militarily they should call up draft send million men to Iraq with equipments they need or bring them home. You can't put all the stress and work on that small number of people. That's cowardly.

You probably didn't realize that domestic crimes sky rocketing after all the resouces shifted to war on terror cost us far more lives then terror attack.

What difference does it make if we're 'safe' from Osama, but you can get shot in your neighborhood because your neighborhood can't afford enough cops for streets?

As opposed to "stay the course with a zero exit strategy"?

I applaud Congress for taking a stand and saying, "No more!" to Bush's open ended wars.

It's just sad that people like you don't see that. But you seem to use Vietnam as some kind of "excuse" banner to parade around--blaming Democrats for that failure.

Our enemies aren't going to be following us home the second we withdraw. That's just government propaganda.

Bush keeps sending our troops into a wr he started by lying to the American people. And the Congress has had the courage to stand up to his despicible actions.

This was not a vote aginst the troops--but for them. It was a vote against a power-hungry egomaniac who cares nothing for the soldiers.

Decent and courageous Americans will continue to serve in our Armed Sources--unlike draft-dodgers Bush and Cheney and their chickenhawk supporters.

And I really have to wonder about the "patriotism" of those who continue to support Bush. They don't support the troops-they can't, not and back Bush at the same time.

Great question. The men and women who enlist in our armed forces will continue to be the best our society produces---those with a profound love of their country, its people and everything it represents: freedom, self-determination and democracy.

Gent,
Since you're obviously only capable of making up numbers to support your own skewed opinions, here's a little reality check:
Current estimates put the total number of US military desertions since the invasion of Iraq at between 5500 and 8000. You can find these numbers yourself, from official Pentagon reports to CBSNews.com and anything and everything in between. By the way, even at 8000 desertions, that number is less than the total from 1995 - 2000.

Notyou311,
This was not a vote to save our troops. This was a vote to put US soldiers in even greater danger. They tied the withdrawal deadline to the very money that would repair their equipment. buy the bullets, even feed them knowing the entire time that President Bush will have no choice but to veto the bill. Democrats are playing politics with the lives of US servicemen and -women.

This was a vote to further attack a President liberals have hated since the beginning, its merely the latest attack and it won't be the last. Everything from burning effigies, accusation of going AWOL, refusal to refer to him as "President Bush," accusations of being a warmonger, accusations of being mass murderer, accusations of stealing elections, attacking subordinates in his administration when they've failed to go after him....it goes on and on.

Oh and how did it get enough votes to pass? Bloated pork. Can't get someone to agree with you, just bribe them.

Mad roy,
There was a time when this country stood by those who couldn't defend themselves. There was a time when this country stood by the principals of freedom and individual liberty. Those times are dying. And, unfortunately, you can't blame it on the Congress alone. We as Americans are to blame. We no longer have the stomach to see something through. We care more about Ipods and cell phones than freedom and liberty. We're completely willing to bury our heads in the sand and ignore the world around us.

There are times when Democracy has to be won, freedom has to be won. We ourselves had to fight for both. We've forgotten.

How about Mexicans that the U.S. wants to shut the borders to. And why not as well any volunteer's from the U.S. prison system that surely would be more then willing to go just for the sport of it. Plus to get better quality air then what they now have to use as well as the meals...

Yes, if only they were not representing the actual wishes of many citizens.
I can only hope that the this stupidity is due to ignorance, and not to an unwillingness to stand up for ourselves.
