Machiavelli wrote The Prince. Compare his philosophy to that of Tito. Just read the Wikipedia articles, and compare. In The Prince there are many themes, which the Wikipedia article points out.

Machiavelli wrote about the Prince keeping power through manipulation. Tito used Yugoslavia as a bargaining chip with the West to bring money and weapons into his country. He was every bit as brutal as the Soviets but the West loved to make the them squirm over this country that had defied them and made it stick
