These days I would go with Family Guy, but back in the day The Simpsons had better writers so it was funnier.

The Simpsons. With Family Guy, everything sounds the same because it's Seth MacFarlane doing half the voice-overs. That's just annoying--he's a baritone, we get it, and we frankly don't care either. He's also a trust fund baby, unlike Matt Groening, who made his own way.
And sometimes, although I do like to watch the show, it tends to go a bit overboard. There are more subtleties when it comes to The Simpsons. To me, it seems like the writers of Family Guy are now trying too hard to be clever, and it comes off as simply trying too hard.

Family Guy is just the same jokes from the Simpsons, reused. Then American Dad is even worse. But to answer the question the Simpsons.

Simpsons are just the classic cool...but I'd have to say Family Guy is funnier now, more relevant to today's society (scary as that may be, lol).

In my opinion, and again, this is only my opinion, I feel that "Family Guy" is much funnier and so much more edgier than "The Simpsons".
