I am an 18 year old male. I am a firm believer in abstinence. It is fool proof; moreover, no one has ever got pregnant from abstaining from sexual activity. Also, instead of passing condoms to children left and right like its candy, educators should teach the use of abstinence to the youth. By doing this the next generations of our world may not have the mentality of "just because I can do it, I should." Teaching abstinence conveys the message that our society realizes that there are consequences to such short pleasures such as sex.

I am abstinent. I have been for 5 years. I'm 25 now and the reason I became abstinent was because I've had too many boyfriends act differently after you have sex with them. It's like they only want to go out with you so you'll have sex with them. And than after you do they just don't seem to care about you. I find that you get to know the true person by abstaining from sex. I'm now waiting till marriage to have sex again.

I am a Christian, so it's abstinence til I'm married. I don't want to ride around on God's merry go round. I hear of so many teenage unwanted pregnancies which is sad for the child. They are the ones who don't have any say in the matter. Of course STD's are rampant.....a few minutes of pleasure isn't worth it. If I'm in love and married the sex is always great.

I am 57, and female.
A person needs time to grow up and mature, before they become sexually active.
From personal experience, I can tell you, that you don't miss sex, until you experience it.
Sex is a gift given to married couples, and with it comes certain responsibilities, such as having sex, with your partner and no one else. Which, in a perfect world, would diminish sexual transmitted diseases.
Pregnancy would only occur when two people devoted to each other, brought a child into this world.
We don't live in a perfect world..but young people can make right choices, as to the way they plan their lives.

I am 49yrs old and have practiced celibacy by choice for twenty three years. Grew tired of men acting like they wanted a relationship and all they wanted was sex. Remember I grew up in the free love 70's..
There are also more reasons but to many to go into here.

I decided on abstinence when I could no longer find anyone worthy of giving myself too and disease ridden people out there....that's not for me.

15,female, and I believe in it. I think it is really stupid to get pregnant before you are even out of school, and I want to make sure he is the right one. Also, you can completely ruin your life just because of one night and a bad decision.

I think abstaining from poisons such as alcohol is a good thing.
I think abstaining from deadly behavior such as sex is a good thing.
in other words, life is good, death is not. Choose life. Choose the things that tend towards life. Thus, if you choose sex, choose to limit yourself to sex with one person only, a person who is uninfected and has made a promise to be faithful to you, as you have promised to be faithful, to REMAIN uninfected.
Likewise, abstain from reckless driving, because reckless driving leads to wreckful driving, and also involves death.
