No, I don't think they are all scum. I believe that most of the people who have drug or alcohol addictions are self-medicating their pain. It could be physical or emotional pain. Feeling high or comfortably numb gives the person a feeling of peace even if it is just for a moment.
I personally have never done any illegal drugs, but I do like to have a few drinks sometimes. Being someone who has suffered for 20 years with major depression I can understand desperately wanting to feel happy.
I do believe the people who are drug dealers, importers, suppliers, pushers & those who have drug labs are complete scum of the earth. I would like to torture them in an excruciating way.
I know that some of the addicts start selling to feed their own addiction, but I think those are the addicts that do it for the mega fast money, the bling-bling and to give them a feeling of power & importance. Basically they are just born losers & are destine to always be nothing but scum.

Maybe when they are still using and drinking but once they find the path of recovery , most are concidered honorable.
