Animalism is an allegorical mirror of the Soviet Union, particularly between the 1910s and the 1940s, as well as the evolution of the view of the Russian revolutionaries and government of how to practice it. By the end of Orwell's novel, Animalism with all of its communist ideals, is effectively abolished, and the pigs have become so humanized (or capitalist) that they are now, both physically and in practice, indistinguishable from the humans.
So from my perspective, animalism or communisum is not realistic in this competitive world. As seen from the coruption of both the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China and their oppression of the people. Remember Tienamen Square? The people who start out as equals are never left as equals. They are forced into classes or roles, which don't officially exist in the eyes of the government, and are made to conform to those practices.
Look at North Korea. To the detrament of the people, all else is sacrificed to the needs of the military and pursuit of Nuclear Weapons. To survive, the government must keep its people withdrawn from the world in total self-isolation, except for allowing no-strings-attached support. It is only by keeping its people isolated that the government can continue to "brainwash" its people keeping them in the dark and thus remain in power. Outsiders bring in free thinking and new ideas which could lead the people in a differnet direction than the government would like to go (Opposition). Opposition is not allowed.
I hope this helps. Good luck.
