the movie (or made-for-tv movie) takes place in the 70's or early 80's. It starts off as an american family is going about their morning routine (breakfast, prepping for work and school) when a bright light like an atomic explosion goes off in the distance.

The family and their neighbors go outside but decide that nothing is wrong. Some people think the country is at war or something.

As the days go on people start to die. The children are the first to go, I remember one little girl bleeding out of her ears and nose. Eventually other people start to die off and they lose their electrical power.

That's as much of the movie as I can remember. I was like 6 or 7 when I saw it and would like to finish it. Odd, I know but hopefully you can help me.

This sounds like The Day After which came out in 1983 starring Jason Robards and Jobeth Williams. The film shows nuclear devastation, focusing on middle america and the survivors attempts to thrive in the aftermath of this holocaust.

Sounds like a late 70's early 80's flick called "Night of the Comet". People start mutating later in the movie, and it gets all creepy and such. Low-budget, didn't make too many waves, but I remember watching it with my folks years and years ago.

It might be Alas, Babylon, that has a bomb go off in the distance. OR it could be The Andromeda Strain, that has a similar beginning. Hope this helps!
