Admission: You need to apply for each college. You also need to include your college name on your FAFSA (financial aid) application. College applications look like job applications. They also require an admittance essay, usually something abouty why you want to attend college. Generally it costs 50.00 per application however there are in state deferment options.
Cost - Tuition: average in-state tuition is 5,500.00 per year
The average out of state tuition is 20,000.00 per year
Cost - Books: Average cost is 300.00 per term and rising.
Cost - Dorm: Dorms are more expensive than paying rent in most places. I found a website that says about 4,000 per year.

Applications: Colleges look at GPA, if your grades are increasing or decreasing, SAT/ACT scores, your essay, letters of reccomendation, what type of classes you have taken (AP classes for example), what type of extra curricular activities you were involved in.
Hours: This refers to credit hours. Each class is typical 3 or 4 credit hours although you can take 1 to 2 credit classes such as PE or seminars. Full time is 12 credit hours (3-4 classes) per term. Half time is 6-8 credit hours.
Normal Schedule: This varies greatly. Students get to choose their own schedules. This is based on classes they need to take though and their class standing. Seniors have first pick, Freshman have last pick. You can take classes all in the evening, only on Tues. and Thurs., whatever works for you.
Number Hours Study: This depends on work load and student. Probably two hours per night minimum or spend all day Saturday instead.

I will put this in my watchlist. Ask more questions if you need and I will update my answer.

Costs are dependent upon the school you eventually attend.

Hours = number of class hours per week.

Normal full time schedule would be about 12 hours.

# of study hours is dependent on the student. The rule of thumb is 3 hours study for every hour of class time.

What colleges look at on applications is dependent on the college. They all look at similar and different things.

One responded by recommending College Admission for Dummies. Turn loose with the $10-$15 and buy the book. I think he gave you sound advice.
