Can you explain in words exactly what makes a person ugly? I'm not talking about handicaps or weight issues. How is it that someone can say another person is ugly? Does dress sense have anything to do with it? Guys and girls nowadays dress themselves up a lot. Girls put thick make-up on and dress really nice. Guys style their hair and also follow some street dressing rules. If you take all these away and dress everybody in rags, can we then say people are ugly? Is it the lack of fashion that makes us determine who's ugly and who isn't?

If they're ugly on the inside, they're ugly on the outside. Personality traits aside, I think that when people are well groomed and presentable they look more attractive. Watch any make-over show on tv and you'll see women and men that look "ugly" when really they are wearing the wrong things.

There are people that are naturally attractive though that don't wear make up or nice clothes but still outshine others in the looks department. I think that a lot of men are naturally beautiful. They wake up and go to bed looking the same way. On the other hand there are plenty of women that looked good when they were out at the club that turn into coyote ugly in the morning.

kinda...... but really facial structure is everything...

i was sitting in class the other day and trying to figure out what was wrong with this one girls face and its that she really doesn't have a chin or cheekbones so her face is just kinda squished together in a flat kind of way... its hard to explain.... its the same with guys 2...... and really acne doesn't matter and neither does makeup... or so much fixing the hair all up but the appropriate cut and length for the shape of the face is important....

its not really fashion either..... some of the fashions like leggings underskirts that are somehow still in...... is not attractive on anyone..... including my roommate who i lack the heart to tell...... its about colors that look good with the coloring of the person and the shape of the clothes not whether or not they are in style....

also thick make-up tends to look bad btw

Yes, someone can actually look "prettier" or better if they put some effort into their look. If you take two people that are identical twins, one could be ugly and one could be pretty, depending on their lifestyle. For example, the one who exercises, drinks water, gets regular hair cuts or styles, eats well and gets good sleep will look better than the one that smokes, drinks too much, gets no sleep, doesn't eat breakfast and also doesn't keep up with the latest clothes, hair and make up styles.

They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think that what makes a person "ugly" depends on everyone else's individual perception. What may be tacky to one may be cool for another. What may be loud for one may be bold for another.

But I think almost everyone will agree that true ugliness, like beauty, comes from within. Ever seen someone consumed by hate/jealousy/rage? It ain't a pretty picture.

For me it has nothing to do with how somebody looks or the clothes they wear. It's all about what is in their true heart. If you dressed everybody in rags I would have to talk to them for a while to see how I thought they were inside. Then I would be able to tell if they were "ugly"
Hope this helps you

I've read somewhere that asymmetry of facial features contributes to a sense of "ugliness." And also wearing clothes that are not considered fashionable by contemporary standards, but I'm more skeptical on that one.

People that take pleasure in hurting other people's feelings and only care about themselves are ugly to me.

I've heard of studies being done on this. Most people find a face attractive if it is symmetrical. The more symmetrical your face is the more other people will find you attractive. So being ugly just means your face is not symmetrical.

Ugliness comes from the inside out. A person who is selfish and hateful to others is uglier and uglier the more you have to deal with them until you hate to even look upon their face. My Mother used to say that "Pretty is as pretty does." and honestly, the longer I live, the more I know that it is true.
