Lower class women worked. They took care of their children and worked in the fields during planting and harvest and made pottery and papyrus when that work was done. They also spun linen thread and some might have done weaving, although that was often a man's job.

Beer-making was also a major industry as was brick making. There were many types of jobs for both men and women.

Wealthier women oversaw their households which included both servants and slaves. They kept control over the most previous spices and oils and maintained discipline.

The roles of women really haven't changed that much through the ages. We still work in industry and business, usually in a subordinate position, and we still clean our homes and take care of our children.

I, for one, am thankful I do not have to spin thread. That was a tedious job even with a spinning wheel and the Egyptian women didn't have those. They had to use drop spindles and a distaff. This is why the lineage through the matriarchal line (the mothers) is still called the distaff side.

Most were mothers and homemakers. A few were allowed to be priestesses. They were, however, allowed to divorce, own property, sign contracts and do all the other stuff usually reserved for men as the head of the household.

There was one female Pharaoh, Hatshetsup, but even she had to pretend to be a man (even though every one knew she wasn't). The Pharaoh was believed to be an earthly incarnation of a male god. In order for Hatshetsup to reign everybody basically accepted that she really was a man just the gods chose a female body.

It depends on what type of women they were
If they were peasants then they might have done domestic chores like weaving cloth, etc.
If they were wives of a pharaoh they were queens and also helped pharaohs pass laws.
