I have been to Kenya twice for volunteer projects. No malaria (I took malarone to prevent it) and as far as I know I have not been blown up by a land mine. In fact, I do not even remember land mine warnings and I was in some pretty remote areas.
There are severe cases of malaria there, as well as TB and HIV. The most worrisome thing is being on the roads. There are actually more deaths there due to auto accidents then AIDS. Get your vaccines, take preventitive meds, wear a seatbelt don't be on the road at all at night, and you should be fine. You will see things that will shock you and break your heart. You will also see things that will redeem your faith in humanity, and meet people with a spirit so strong and beautiful that you will wonder what is wrong with us here in America (to have so much and appreciate so little).
You will LOVE Kenya. It is by far the most amazing place I have ever been. And I cannot wait to go back.
By chance are you going to the Kijabe area? If so you have nothing to worry about.

There are NO land mines in Kenya, Malaria is a matter of prevention like any other disease, seek medical advice if need be. Most of the friends that have gone have only needed a mosquito net!
But for the most part kenya is very safe, fun, friendly people. Your passion should come from building the clinic not worrying about is it safe, after all some of the illnesses you'll be treating will be far worse than you have seen anywhere in the world.
If you can help do what you can!

There are no landmines in Kenya; which part of the country will you be building the health clinic, since the western and coastal regions are the ones prone to malaria. Also, which month will you be coming since we have two rainy season, in april and in october, june and july are abit chilly but the rest of the year is sunny and hot, maybe you can consinder sun exposure, and use a protective lotion.

land mines in Kenya? whoever told you that was obviously just messin around wit ya! kenya is a safe place to be in as long as u take some safety measures - just like being in any other country. malaria isn't that severe as it sounds. if you're in a hot region, just carry some mosquito repellent cream or something.
all the best!

YES it is safe to go. I've been on two research trips to Kenya as well as trips to Uganda and Rwanda with no problems. As long as you do your research on the specific areas you will be working in (make sure they are stable), you go to the travel clinic before you leave and take neccessary precautions (i.e. avoid driving at night, dont carry large amounts of money, dont travel alone, drink plenty of bottled water) then you will be fine.
Presumably you would be going as part of a group? If so - Im sure there will be well seasoned travellers among the group. If not, just read up on the area you are working in before you go, and enjoy it!

land mines i have never heard of in kenya.we dont have a problem with that.however malaria is preventable just take anti-malarial tablets and sleep under a treated net and u'll be fine.its not such a big deal unless you live in the country as opposed to the city.lots of foreigners live here and they do just fine.
