It must be really old for a belt to go out.
You need to find the procedure for your manufacturer's brand or model. there are different ways, and different belts, of course. Call up several repair shops and ask them the cost of a belt, and advice on the easiest way to change it.

You don't fix the belt, you replace it. LOL
Anyway, you should be able to turn the washer on its side and the belt should be visible. The motor should have some type of spring on it to provide tension on the belt. put the new belt on and turn it back right side up.

take the back off and it is on a series of pulleys underneath the drum with is what holds the clothes.it is almost like putting one on a lawn mower.you just have to figure out the way it goes on
