I'm interested in knowing this, I have a close friend who is marrying her ex spouse after a two year separation and divorce. They have gotten a lot of marriage therapy and only divorced after her spouse had developed a substance abuse problem for which he was treated and has been very successful in staying in recovery. What do you think?

Approximately 80% of all married couples separate for 2 months or longer during their marriage. And nearly 14% of all couples who actually divorce remarry each other.

It does happen often because they miss the person they want their spouse to be...they remember the good qualities they miss, and forgot why they divorced and how miserable they were together the first time around. When they remarry, it all comes back and they find themselves in the same spot all over again. As for your friends...maybe there's a chance since they've both participated in therapy.

It is not all that common, but it does happen. I remarried my ex after being apart 6 years.

You catch alot of flack for it, especially if old issues pop back up. Which happens, it is like a re-run with different dynamics. But if you are true and work hard it can work. There are road blocks and issues...

Sometimes you go "WHY DID I DO THIS AGAIN!", because people really do not change that much over time.

But if they think they can make a go of it, let them give it a shot. At least then they can say ... they tried!

But if they fall apart again, I would not recommend a 3rd time around. Fool me once, shame on you.. fool me twice, shame on me!

I believe if there is love and trust then i think it will work out. I had a highschool teacher who divorced and remarried his wife 3 times... says he cant live without her... so anything is possible...

My husbands parents were married twice and divorced twice. They had started dating again when he passed away from a sudden heart attack.
