I know it's not crushing for her, and I have had a friend who committed suicide a couple of years ago, and she grew up with this guy and he took his life today and it seems like it is really getting to her, how do I help her feel better?

I'm no stranger to witnessing suicide, unfortunately. Being in the mental health field, I'm around those who have attempted, and those who have succeeded. It is heart wrenching and in some people, can trigger Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Especially if they are the one to find the body. How did he die? Usually men choose violent methods, and this only adds to the horror survivors have to go through. The best thing you can do is just be loving and compassionate. Let her vent her feelings. Talking it through is highly therapeutic. She may be going through survival guilt and having thoughts like, "I should of done something to prevent this" and "Why didn't I see the signs?" Please tell her not to blame herself. There is nothing she could of done differently. And how are you holding up? You also had a friend who committed suicide so this must bring back horrific memories of your own. You two can lean on each other and be there for each other. Let her know you understand what she's going through. Give her a shoulder to cry on. If after several months, she's not getting to a place of
resolve and acceptance in order to get on with her life, please suggest therapy to her. It can work wonders. Bless you both.
