Even if they improve, they have to get past Seattle and St. Louis. Don't be so sure that even if they are above .500 this year that they are a wildcard lock.

Great chance for the playoff and a decent chance for the Division. The NFC west isn't weak like everyone claims. Rams and Cards will be improved. Seattle is always in the hunt. There will probably be 2 NFC West teams in the playoff. However, the NFC West always play each other close. Look for the Niners to win the close games because of improved defense, ball control (frank gore), and clutch kicking of Nedney. The 49ers have one of the weakest strength of schedule. They will go 10-6 Division champs with the Lambs 9-7 in wild card. Seahawks at 8-8 with no playoffs where they belong. Also, the NFC is still weak. The lucky teams that made it last year (Cowboys, Giants, Seahawks) will not be lucky next year. Here is my 2007 NFC playoffs

1.Eagles (11-5) 4.Bucs (10-6)
2.Bears (11-5) 5.Saints (9-7)
3.49ers(10-6) 6.Rams (9-7)
49ers over the Bucs in NFC Champ game.

AFC
1.Pats (13-3) 4.Steelers (10-6)
2.Colts (12-4) 5. Broncos (10-6)
3.Chargers (11-5) 6.Jets (9-7)
Chargers over Steelers in AFC Champ game.

The Niners have a lot of work to do, especially on the defensive side of the ball. DB's are weak, Nate Clements was a good pickup but they need a ball hawking safey. LB's are a little soft. Also need a good run stoper. On offense Alex Smith is progressing nicely but I think getting rid of Antonio Bryant might hurt a little plus they didnt add a top notch WR in FA. Offensive Line needs to stay healthy along with Vernon Davis. If they dont have the games against top notch teams where they loose 41-7 then maybe they can go 9-7 but i believe the NFC West will be won by St. Louis this year with San Fran and Seattle battling for second and possibly a wild card spot. The only other division i see with more the one team in the playoffs will be the East so that leaves the second place team in the West for the second wild card spot

particular, he must be long exceeded by the top of the season if this dropping keeps. i'm a 49ers fan and concept the 49ers could make the playoffs with a helpful checklist. Even at 2-6 SF whether has a risk to win the NFC West as they're in ordinary words 2 video games decrease back of Seattle and Arizona. yet as quickly as you observed the Atlanta activity, SF had 4th and purpose on the ATL 3 indoors the 4th quarter and the score 17-13. MIKE NOLAN ELECTED to decide for for the sphere purpose! i advise you want 3 YARDS or perchance if in case you do no longer CONVERT YOU decrease back UP ATLANTA DEEP of their own TERRITORY. The 49ers moved the ball so exact on that stress. With the switched over FG, the 49ers have been trailing by one and gave Atlanta the momentum. Mike Nolan is the foremost conservative trainer indoors the NFL. you will no longer be able to be conservative each and every time you play. How do you win in case you're conservative too plenty? hire Marty Schottenheimer as head trainer for next 3 hundred and sixty 5 days.

8-8 and miss the playoffs with Seattle winning the division. Many people think that Seattle isn't as dominant as they were but you look at last season and most of their starters were injured for at least part of the year. Of course, it could be because of that Superbowl game losers curse, which they broke last season by making the playoffs.

Frisco on the other hand still has a lackluster running defense and their offense has yet to mature properly. Alex Smith need to mature a little more and they need to get him some receivers to throw to, cause Vernon Davis is their best receiver and him alone isn't going to do the job. With an inept passing game, Gore is going to be heavily relied on again, but sooner or later he's going to break down too. They're still better than St. Louis and Arizona but I just don't think they can get past Seattle with their current team.

I say they go 10-6 and win the west; Seattle is no longer as dominant as they were awhile ago (we'll see if Hasselbeck and Alexander are up to prime this year), Arizona IS who we all think they are, and Rams dont have many big-time players.

The additions of Nate Clements and Ashley Lelie in particular fill some pretty big holes on both sides if the ball, but we still need to get some more receivers in the draft. Also, they just signed Frank Gore to a 4-yr extension and behind that same O- line, should produce the same results as last year.

My prediction: win the first round, and from there its anybody's guess.

I don't know. Alex Smith is developing, but not quite there yet. Probably better than last year. He's one or two years removed from college, like Reggie Bush and Vince Young.

I say 9-6, make the playoffs and lose a close game during wild-card week. Their offensive should do good enough to make the playoffs in the weak NFC, but not enough against the better NCF teams.
