I could be a cyst. Some skin tumours like lypomas also move and are just under the skin.A cyst can be treated, i you're so concerned, guess what, see a vet.

I don't think tumors have to be stuck to a bone inhamsters or any other species... but I'm no hamster tumor expert -- it could also be a cyst ( how ever its spelt) My dog had one & it felt like a lump almost tumorus- the only way you could tell for surewhat it is -is by visiting the vet & shave the hamster & biopsy to know for sure but truthfully biopsy would cost you ALOT for a hamster .....

good luck

Have you taken the hamster to the vet for this diagnosis, if not take him ASAP for a correct diagnosis. A tumor doesn't always need to be attached to a bone, but can be free floating under the skin. More often then not, they are cancerous. They round circular ones are usually, but not always a cyst. In a hamster there's not much to do for them due to their size plus they don't tolerate anesthesia well and can die from it also. We've had 5 Russian dwarf hamster with 3 different types of cancer in the last year. 2 had brain tumors undetected and we found them with their heads exploded (I'm not trying to be gross, but this is how the vet explained what happened to us), 2 more had external tumors that were on their bellies (one chewed hers off only to die 13 months later of internal cancer of the organs), 1 we had put down when her tumors turned black under the skin with the pink tumors present (she had only days before she'd die), and 1 that was a Syrian (black bear) that got a tumor on the side of his jaw. It got so big in just one week, that his teeth got loose, he got an infection in his intestinal tract from not eating drinking right, and he got an abscess in his mouth from the teeth growing too long - he was put down. The vet suspected the tumor was cancer because of how quickly everything happened and that the cancer had rapidly spread in his organs causing the infection that no antibiotic was helping in less then 2 weeks time frame. My vet doesn't like to put any animal down unless the quality of life is overpowered by unmanageable pain or insistance of the owner, he likes to work with his clients and their pets for the best painfree life no matter how short. The hamsters that died showed no outward sign of pain or discomfort, they waited until we weren't home when they died or we made the choice based on the quality they weren't having any longer. He knows I will give 200% to see any size animal through to the end. I have several time asked for his judgement on what to do because my urge to not give up was strong. I knew the time had come on some, but my mind wouldn't allow me give up until the vet said "it's time".

So for your hamsters sake take him to the vet for a true piece of mind.

If it hard it may be a tumor but I think it is an infection and the lump is an abscess. If it looks worse you may want to take it to a Vet.

Not all tumors are attached. My dog had a free floating tumor the size of a grapefruit.

not all tumors are attached... go to the vet... hamsters are just as important as cats or dogs and will be treated the same way!
