I had to get my computer fixed (had a virus), and everything was deleted off my hard drive. Now I've had to re-download iTunes, and I don't want to have to re-download all of the 1000 songs I have on my ipod, but I want to be able to continue to download new music onto my ipod from itunes.

Simply turn off automatic Sync or turn on Manual Sync.
you'll keep your songs and be able to work your library back up, but don't go back to that site where you downloaded all thos virus filled songs ok?

hi emilylime! ok - no prob - give this a try:

1. open itunes then plug ur ipod into ur computer. *immediately cancel a sync/update if it starts automatically*

2. when u plug ur ipod into ur computer, itunes will display a screen - on the Summary tab of this screen, check the box next to "manage music and videos manually".

3. then, on the left side of itunes where ur ipod shows up in the list, click the arrow just to left of ur ipod name. the arrow will then turn into a down arrow and display a list beneath ur ipod. click the "Music" item in this list and the music on ur ipod will be displayed in the right side of the itunes window.

4. now just select the songs (from the right side of the itunes window) you want to copy from ur ipod to itunes and drag and drop into the Library-Music item in the list in the left side of the itunes window.

now you should have your itunes music library restored from ur ipod!

once u get ur itunes library restored, please subscribe to my FREE video podcast on iTunes: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=183309259
