could fuel problem or something else cause trans. to shift at wrong times? trans. was just rebuilt!!!!!!!!!!

It could be several things. I would check the U-joints, they should have been replaced, they can cause a clanking or thud like sound. When you had the tranny redone. Or maybe it was not done right. I would take it back and have them look at it again.
Maybe they did not tighten up all the bolts.

the transmissions on these trucks are the weakest ever. i owned a 1990 f150 4x4 w/ the AOD (automatic overdrive) and i had the transmission rebuilt numerous times. the transmissions are just bad.

Check your fluid level and condition of the fluid sounds like a hard shift could be dirty or clogged valve body in the transmission or even a dirty or clogged filter in the pan.
