They cry all night about their rights to own ASSAULT WEAPONS with 30 round banana clips for.. hunting or target shooting or some crap like that.

But when one of their most ESSENTIAL rights, the writ of habeous corpus has been TAKEN AWAY, they could care less.

I dont get that, do they think they can shoot at the government agents that come to arrest them and detain them ad infinitum?

What am i missing?

gun owners think they can fight back..

guess what.. the government has more guns then you. If your sole defense is a gun INSTEAD of a law, you lose. Everytime.

What I wonder is why EVERYBODY isn't upset about the suspension of Habeas Corpus, in addition to a jillion other unconstitutional acts committed by our rulers, every day.

As for your second question, you answered it.

Your missing the point that if the gun owners became so threatened by their government, as you suggest, they would be able to fight back. The first thing any new Totalitairan government has to do is take the guns away. Then no other freedom or right can be defended by the people. How far would Hitler get with an armed citizenary?

And while we are asking the question, what about you? You say gun owners are hippocrits, are you a hippocrit for supporting some rights and them supporting other rights being taken away? At least the gun owners by in large aren't marching on Washington to have the writ of habeous corpus become outlawed!

And a second follow-up question, why do big-governmnet supporters always cry about the fact that big government is taking away their rights? Do they not understand that is what any government, no matter what the intentions behind it, is inclined to do? Ahh, the failure of our civics classes. These kinds of breaches on our freedoms are exactly what we were warned about over 200 years ago when our founders tried to setup a government that couldn't get as big as it is today. They were brilliant, and yet still failed to create a self-curtailing government. What a great lesson that went right over the heads of most Americans.

As for your comment about losing to standing up for the government. Tell that to the patriots who succeeded from Britain. They had less guns, but their ideals spread, got the help they needed, and won the war. What you are missing is that all governments will take away the citizens rights. It is up to the citizens to fight back or lose their rights.

Why do you think we own those assault weapons with 30 round banana clips, and fight so hard to keep our right to bear arms? It is because those guns are suppose to allow us to protect our other civil liberties. When a government disarms its people only then is when we become slaves to it. We know that when all peaceful means fails, when the government becomes overly oppressive, and we have no other choice, we will be able to fight back. When they bust down our doors in the middle of the night to arrest us unlawfully, we can fight back. After all, that was the purpose of the Second Amendment. To allow the people to fight back against the government if they have to. So the government can't use its standing army to oppress the people. Yes, the government does have more guns than we do, but there are about 80 million gun owners in the U.S. That is one heck of a militia. And what about the insurgents in Iraq? Here we are one of the biggest superpowers in the world, and we have our hands full with these insurgents. Unfortunately, some people trade their liberty for safety, like the right to Habeous Corpas. But, they forget in doing this we can pay a heavy price for it. Stalin's Soviet Union, look at what happened to the people there. Crime was low and they were protected. The problem was they were under a dictator, and had no freedom whatsoever. They were locked away in his prisons unlawfully. Stalin even killed more of his own people than Hitler did. Was it worth it, no. This is why we fight for our right to bear arms. As Thomas Jefferson once said, "When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty."

Most people do not even realize that their civil liberties are being infringed upon. They always think that "It could never happen to me!"
These are the people that actually believe that the PATRIOT ACT is a good thing. They are also the same people that have not read the PATRIOT ACT.

Having a gun in their hand means more to them than an idea. I guess they can't wrap their narrow little minds around ideas - those are such sissy university intellectual things.......
