Odysseus, on his way home from the Trojan war, managed to offend Poseidon, god of the sea, and has had a hard time of it. As the story opens, he has been shipwrecked on a remote island with the beautiful demi-goddess Calypso. But he turns down her offer to become her immortal companion, in favor of being reunited with his wife, Penelope.
Meanwhile, Penelope is fending off the hundred men who have moved into Odysseus's palace with her, insisting that she marry one of them; and Odysseus's son Telemachus is coming of age, wondering where's my dad and how can I get rid of these hundred freeloaders.
Odysseus finally makes his way home, telling the tale of his previous adventures along the way. He returns disguised as a beggar. He meets up with Telemachus, who has been traveling the area looking for news of him, and they join forces to attack and kill the hundred suitors.
Odysseus is reunited with his wife and re-assumes his place as king.
