Yes, though not just because they pursue more than the financial/materialistic priorities which dominate (and subjugate) modern "culture". Exposure to divergent perspectives and the formulation of truly independent thought requires extraordinary dedication. Devotion to Truth also needs great courage - to stand alone at the brink of the abyss and willingly confront the core questions which dwell between existence and reality.

I am going to major in Philosophy, and feel totally sure that it is the right decision. I feel Philosophy to be my passion. I feel being of service to humanity by encouraging thought. I love thinking of new, thoroughly alien answers to those basic philosophical problems that all of should give a crack at. I feel not the least regret in my decision; and even though I am just an immigrant from the Dominican Republic with no money, in my mind encouraging thought is the most important thing to worry about, not money. Money might rule the world but I won't let it rule me.

Maybe, but maybe not. Philosophy majors tend to get into Law School and a lot of graduate programs because of their resoning power.

Majoring in Religious Studies takes the same amount of bravery and dedication... especially when people ask constantly, "What are you going to do with THAT degree?"
...I should just get, "No, I'm not going into the clergy." tattooed on my forehead...

Hmm, when it comes to money childcare students are pretty dedicated and have their hands full. Science students too (my science degree includes philosohpy)- depending in their major and what they want to use it for.

No. History majors have to take a bunch of BS and hammer it into something serious. Philosophy majors do just the opposite.
