This guy burns wood in a backyard pit when it's 95 degrees outside the smoke and smell blows into my home.

I asked him why he burns wood, he says he likes to? I asked him to stop on very hot days yet he'll do it again a week later.

He's not only bugging me but polluting for no reason other than he likes to. I think he's mentally unbalanced.

What would you do? What can I do?

OMG...I have the exact same problem. Drives me insane,I can hardly ever have my windows open. The smoke from the fire sends my allergies into a tail spin. The first nice day we had here in Pa where I could finally open the window and get some fresh air and the neighbor is out there having a campfire.
I will be contacting the borough I live in and report this, because I know open burning isn't allowed in our town.Last year I seriously thought about calling the fire department and reporting a fire in the neighbors yard. But,I couldn't do it,wouldn't be right.
I understand people love to sit by the fire, but when you live in a town with close neighbors I think it is rude to pollute the air that I have to breath. They complain about smokers, this is far worse.

Contact the Fire Marshall and your local DEQ agency. It may be illegal for him to be burning in a ground dug pit. But be prepared for him to purchase a metal firepit specifically used for burning wood in it, to which there would be nothing you could really do to stop him or prevent him from doing so.

You can sue him. I know it sounds funny, but if you've tried to get him to stop, and this is creating an actual problem, you can say that his burning of wood is a nuisance and is affecting both your property and your quality of life.

Check your local codes (at the library, for instance) to see if outdoor burning is legal in your town.

Try to live and let live. It may be silly but if he wants to have a fire and there are no regulations against it there is not too much you can do.
