You should not test any sooner than 10 days past ovulation and even then the results will only be about 53% accurate. For the most accurate results wait 14 days past ovulation or when your period is late. If you don't know when you ovulated or when your next period is due then wait 19 days from the last time you have sex to test.

The most accurate way to test for pregnancy is to wait until after your period is due. All pregnancy tests on the market will pick show a positive result, a higher percentage of the time, if you wait until this point. Most women, who are trying to get pregnant, will want to know as soon as possible and don't really don't want to wait until they are late to test.
If pregnant, the amount of hCG in your system should be around 25 mIU at 10 dpo (days past ovulation), 50 mIU at 12 dpo, 100 mIU at around two weeks dpo. Blood tests can determine pregnancy as low as between 5 to 10 mIU/hCG, though with levels of 5 mIU, a conclusive determination cannot be made without risking a "false positive" as low levels hCG can be present in the body without pregnancy.

You can take an early pregnancy test as early as 5 days before your missed period, but they do say that you get your best results the first day of your missed period. I'd wait it out until then.

I would suggest waiting until you actually miss your period. If you take one sooner it could be inaccurate. People sometimes get confused by a positive test but is very light, thats because the pregnancy is very early. Home pregnanct tests' test for the pregnancy hormone, so if the test is positive then you are pregnant

Well, if you're not entirely sure you might be pregnant, it may be too early, or if you haven't had a missed period. Also, if you just got off some birthcontrol pills just for trying to get pregnant, it will probably take several weeks for your body to get back into the shape to become pregnant.
