the rockies definately have as best shot as they have ever had to win their division. not simply because of their team, but a great deal due to the weakness of their division. The rockies will need to rely heavily on the continued maturation of some of their young core players: Garrett Atkins, Brad Hawpe, and especially Matt Holliday. They could possibly have the best lineup in the West if Taveras shows he can successfully lead off and if Helton turns in a slightly better performance from his minor slip last year. Their pitching staff could be the best it has ever been. Once again this is contingent on the development of young talent, especially Aaron Cook and Jeff Francis.
division record will be key to the rockies, or for any NL West team's success this season. If you are a rockies fan you are in store for a fun season because you have a lot of fun young talent to watch.

Personally, even though I'm a Giants fan, I think they can. They have the offense, Atkins, Holliday, Helton, Hawpe, Taveras, and Troy Tulowitzki can become a power guy eventually in Coors, but trading away Jennings definitely didn't help. I believe Francis can win about 15 games with a 3.85 ERA. Fuentes can shut down their opponents in the 9th which turns small, late-inning leads into wins. But the rest of that pitching staff, isn't that good to win a division. So good offense, but the pitching, not that good. But since we're talking about the Wild, wild NL west, anyone can win.
