Unfortunately now, many shows are showing alot more reruns during the regular season than they used to. Used to be you'd only see reruns during the summer break, now they pack the regular season full of them. If you ask me, the season's alot shorter now because of that.

It's not that seasons are any shorter, it's just that they are now starting earlier (early-mid september instead of early october) and they are ending wayy later (late may, early june instead of late april-early may) A "normal" season is approx. 22 episodes. There are more re-runs throughout the season now because of it starting earlier and ending later and because they space the episodes out more, so there are never more than 6 new episodes on in a row... Lost this season is challenging that however... 22 episodes is considered a full season, but they also have shortened seasons that are anywhere between 16-20 episodes, such as this year's One Tree Hill and Veronica Mars and then there is also the half seasons that either run fron september to December/January or January to June, which are usually around 12 episodes... And last but not least you have the summer time series that usually run from late may/early june to late september/early october, which are again approx. 12 episodes...

And if you were asking for a time (I don't think you were but...) for a 1/2 hour sitcom there is 22 minutes of air-time and for a 1 hr drama it can differ a little bit, it's approx 45 minutes, but it can go up to about 47 and down to 42 or so.

Most Network channel tv shows have a season of 22-24 episodes. (usually 24) Unless it is introduced mid-season, and the network has only funded 12-13 episodes, as in the first season of grey's anatomy- which came back season 2 with 24 episodes. Basic Cable Channel tv shows have a season of 10-13 episodes. However, shorter seasons are not unheard of. The sara silverman show had a season of 6 episodes. But i have never heard of more the 24 episodes/season, outside of game shows, soaps, and news. Heroes will be back, its just taking another Hiatus. However, Kyle XY is from a cable network channel, so it will probably have a shorter season.

The normal TV season is 24 episodes, but if you are watching shows on Fox or Sci-fi nowadays...your seasons could be broken up. That's also why they are staring to sell the season seperately on DVD. It's so annoying, your paying $30 for half a season when a full season only cost around $45. That's what we just had to do with Battlestar Galactica, we had to buy season 2 seperately and it was pricey.

It really depends on the network...but typically, a show could last around 21-22 episodes. Some go as short as 18 and others can go as long as 25.
