start out going twice a week for five minutes, and then move to 8 or 10 minutes
after you build a base tan, go every other day for 10 to 12 minutes... if you want to look darker right away use a tanning lotion with a bronzer in it.... and make sure you put lotion on every day because tanning is bad for your skin.

Get a fake tan. It is so much better for you. I read an article where a dermatologist said that tanning beds are like putting poison on your body. You will be so happy some day when you don't have all those wrinkles and lines on your face too. Just read this: http://www.skincancer.org/artificial/index.php

Ask an employee at the place you are going to. There are a ton of different beds, and times vary. You could start off for five or ten minutes in a regular bed, but if your using a super bed, it will be less time.

Please reconsider the tanning idea. When I was young, I tanned in the sun until I burned (before tanning beds), and now have to keep checking my skin for melanomas. Women my Mother's age who tanned beautifully are now regretting it, too. Many have gotten cancer. There are so many good self tanning lotions, so please do your health a favor and use them, not the tanning beds or the sun.
