Google keeps a large index and is constantly updating it. So when you search it looks through the index and then prints the excerpts that you see.

Windows search looks through every file sequentially which takes much longer.

Google has a product that you can download that will index your hard drives and keep updating a local inde that allows you the same search speed of your own computer.

Google is made up of hundreds (if not thousands) of computers working together, and your one computer does Windows.
