Systemic fertilisers are absorbed by the plant roots & then circulate along the internal pathways to all parts of the plant, they contain nutritional factors required for plant growth & some also include micro nutrients that are required for balanced plant growth..These are not harmful to the plant nor to birds & bees.It is the sprayed inseticides , fungicides & hebicides you need to be careful about.Surprised nurseries could not come up with this answer.

A systemic fertilizer goes from the roots throughout the entire plant and a good rain will not wash it away. I do not think that it does any harm to butterflies, bees, hummingbirds or other birds. I've used systemic fertilizers and insect killers for many years with no problem.
