Not so long ago, a car was a Holden – or a Ford. A vacuum cleaner was a Hoover. And milk was just – milk.

Now our choices have exploded.

From mobile phone plans to mortgages, choice is the mantra of our modern economy. If some choice is good, more must be better.

But do you ever wonder if it’s getting out of hand? Could too much choice actually make you ill?

You pays your money and you takes your chances. That observation has been around since before computers or telephones. Foreign visitors have been overwhelmed by the number of items that we have available in our stores here. On the other hand our own people can be blinded to other possibilities beyond their own neighborhood. We have plenty of choices but we often choose not to see them for better or worse..

No, I don't think we have too many choices. When we came to this earth we were given agency, or the ability to choose. I think the choices we make, even as small as the vacuum we buy, help make us the people we are today. The clothes we choose to wear tell about who we are. The vacuum we choose to buy tells if we're thrifty, if we want high quality things, or if we don't really care about small details, and so forth.

having more choices does not make us ill. people who stress over small things are the ones who get ill, trying to decide between 500 different brands of cereal at the store thinking they will regret their choice if they choose the wrong one. having more choice makes people smarter. would you want the only available vehicles to be hummers or cadillacs, having to wait possibly 20 yrs (like the old soviet union) only to have a few choices between gas hogs just so you dont have to stress over it? or would u rather have the hundreds of car manufacturers now, with the many choices of reasonable prices and gas mizers? dont sweat the small stuff

That's why it's so much easier, and better for us if we first chose to live by principles. It helps to simplify all the rest of the choices we make.

BTW - That's part of the peace that God offers us if we chose to become one of His children. Even 9 years after He gave me my wife I still find it amazing to see how much easier and better things turn out when I leave the choices up to Him.

No, the amount of choices is always better when they are abundant...not scarce. To hinder choices hinders innovation. The choices , in and of themselves, will weed out the weak ones and leave only strong ones.

sometimes choices are good, sometimes not but i guess it depends if you are looking at the bright side (like you can wear a green shirt if you want) or if you mean like the bad part when you have to decide if you like the pink shoes better than the yellow!

Simplicity is the key. You don't NEED any of those choices. Quit letting the Madison Ave. add wizards poison your brain.

Not especially. With more choices comes more responsibility, that's all.
