Okay - so you say there is no blood in the tissue when you blow your nose, and I guess that means you don't have a nose bleed.

So the blood you cough up must come from the back of your throat or deeper in your windpipe or from your lung.

If you are constantly coughing up big globs of clot, you should see your doctor and start getting pictures taken of your chest - chest X-ray and possibly a CT scan.

If you are only coughing up a little streaky bit of blood mixed with phlegm, you're probably okay. Go see your doctor if you are still concerned, but don't expect too much in the way of excitement or investigation.

Quit smoking.

Orinoco is also correct and when it is something as serious as coughing up blood,you really should go to the doctors and get some X rays done.
