Yes, I believe that the punishment is too free when it comes to certain circumstances. For any repeat offender, yes, it should be more harsher. I saw a story a couple of weeks ago where a young man, 20 years old. He bumped the car in front of him , on accident, stopped and was preparing to give insurance info to the man he hit. He man was so mad he tried to start a fight but then got in his car and drove away. The 20 year old was mad and decided he would catch up and flip the guy the bird and do some yelling, typical road rage! The car was run off the road. The passenger was a pregnant woman, who because of the accident lost her baby. The 20 year old guy, got 5 to 7 years in a maximum security prision.

He had never had any trouble before and now is in prision for nearly 7 years. I think that punishment was way too harsh. He did not mean to kill the unborn baby, it was an accident, but because it was road rage...he is being punished.

I really hope that when he gets out he can move forward with his life and make a good future for himself. I feel sorry for him. I feel like he got the shaft!

It's not a question of harshness. It's a matter of swiftness and certainty that's important.

You've seen in your own life how well "just wait till your father gets home" works disciplining children. Why anyone would expect that to work with adult criminals is a complete mystery.

Hell yeah! If we start cutting of rapists' genitals, do you think people are going to be that willing to rape? If we hang murderers in public don't you think people would think twice about murdering?

Better yet, if everyone excercised their right to carry firearms, wouldn't you think that violent crime would slow down real quich, because remember, for every 1 bad guy, there are 20 good guys.

To err is human, to forgive is divine!
Having said that, it is also important that criminals be brought to justice and punished according to their crime. This is to act as deterrent for them and for others in future. However, if one is repentant and has mend his/her ways, then we should seriously consider forgiveness, especially to those serving life sentences without parole and are now changed humans.

Let's have judges do the judging, and leave the second-guessing to op-ed writers.

Then, let's examine judges' sentences, and actually campaign to get rid of the bad ones. (Failing that, just always vote "reject" for all judges up for retention -- have them climb down from their clouds and get real jobs. One term at the bench is plenty.)
