I was working in a gas station for like 3wks and they out of nowhere fired me. They said it was something they found in my criminal BG but the only thing that was there was something that had been dismissed!! but they won't give me and answer when i call and ask WHAT it was. Can they legaly fire me like that for not putting THAT on my app when it CLEARLY says, "CONVICTED"?

Depending on what state you live on, your state could have a law saying that within the first two weeks are school you can be fired for any reason at anytime. I do believe they need to give notice of the reason though.

If you signed a contract or were given an employee handbook, it depends on what they say. I've had jobs where they would put a sentence in like "Employment may be terminated by either party with reason or notice." Or "Emplopyer may terminate at any time with or without reason or notice." If anything like that is in either a contract or handbook, Honey, you're screwed.

In most states in the US, they can fire you for any or no reason as long as it is not a protected class, religion, sex, age and the such.

So yes they can fire you for this, and not there is nothing you can do. And no they don't have to tell you anything else if they don't want to.
