1/4 cup vegetable oil based liquid soap and hot water is the best "natural" cleaner for cars. Wash your car on the grass and watch your grass grow at the same time.
3 parts vinegar and 1 part water coated on the windshield and windows will keep them frost free during winter.
For a car wax use 1 cup linseed oil, 4 tablespoons caranuba wax, 2 tablespoons beeswax, and 1/2 cup vinegar. Put ingredients in top half of a double boiler or saucepan. Heat slowly until wax has melted. Stir, and pour into a heat resistant container. After wax has solidified, rub it on the car with a lint-free cloth. Saturate a corner of a cotton rag with vinegar and polish the wax to a deep shine.

DONT use any household detergents like dawn, pine sol etc, they will strip the paint of any wax causing your car to fade. Since you asked this question, dont wash your car in the sun, that will cause the paint to fade and crack. Bite the bullet and buy some detergent from an auto place, there is a reason big bucks are spent in making them. They would coat your cars finish and push away the loose dirt while being gentle on your vehicle.

We always used plain laudry powder like tide powder. It's really cheap that way.
