Yes, he probably needs it by that age to help him get full. Just a teaspoon though so it's not too thick and he won't get choked. Just mix it in formula to start then you should really sit him up and spoon feed it to him.

No do not put the cereal into the bottle. Rather mix a little formula into about a tablespoon of cereal in a small bowl and spoon feed the baby...

If you are considering putting baby cereal into the bottle it is not advisable. This may have been common practice for some older grandmothers, however it does not necesssarily apply today.

Many doctors prefer to delay the onset of solid food in order to avoid the development of food allergies in infants. There is no age engraved in stone, for example babies with larger birth weights may need solid food sooner. If your baby is taking 8-10 ounces of formula and still seems hungry after 2 or 3 hours he may need to start on solid food.

The recommended cereal to begin with is rice, not a rice mix but plain rice. You can certainly mix it in a bowl using formula with a couple of spoonfuls of cereal. When you feed him, use a spoon and make sure he is sitting up in his chair. He may make some faces at first as experiences the consistency of solid food, but he'll eventually enjoy it.
.
It is very important that you wait several days before trying a new food, in order to observe any allergic reactions. After rice, barley, then oatmeal are usually tried next.
Do not try to rush this process, or your baby could end up with a very painful diaper rash.

It is best to discuss all this with your baby's doctor, who can advise you what is best for your son.

Yes....I had 3 sons. My oldest son is 38, the next 36, and the next 32. All of them were started on oatmeal or rice mixed into their formula about that age and they all did well. My second son was born 2 month premature also. Just make sure it isnt to thick. Mix well with the formula. I also mixed in a little fruit for taste.
My youngest son did not like ANY baby foods...so I got my blender out and made mush out of whatever I cooked for dinner that night (roast, potatoes, peas, whatever) added water and boy did he chow down. He was about 6 months when I started that and was sitting up in the highchair.
Just use common sense.

No. Three and a half months is to young for a baby to be eating cereal, it can damage their digestive system. Start closer to 6 months, and there are cereals that you just add water to, but formula is o.k to mix in (at an older age).

Yes you can. Speaking from experience! However, talk with your doctor first. Do not do anything without consulting your doctor. As stated in previous reponses, dont add but one to two teaspoons of regular baby cereal and make a tiny hole in the nipple or get a size bigger nipple. After, if the contents are to thick to get through the hole then you know it's too thick. When the baby gets older and in the highchair, you can do the formula in the oatmeal bowl. I'm sure you will do fine.

Yes, it's okay. My daughter was younger than that when I started her on cereal in her formula. Just be sure to make it runny enough so the baby doesn't choke on it. I gave it to her in her bottle at night and she slept through until the next morning. She never had any problems from me doing this. Her pediatrician said it was okay to do this.

Yes but everyone I have heard it from recommends that you feed it with a spoon. It can get kind of messy because you have to make it so runny when they first start but it's also very exciting watching them eat with a spoon for the first time.

But number one don't let people tell you that you should or shouldn't do something just because of what they did with their kids. You know your own child and know if they are ready for it or not. My daughter started ceareal at around four months and did okay but your son may not be ready yet. Just try a little and see how he does. Good Luck!

And on the comment about children not starting solids until 6 months that means baby food not ceareal.(From my WIC department)

Before you do anything re: introducing new food (if cereal is a new food assuming he is only on formula/breast milk up to now), please check with your baby's health care provider.

And I strongly suggest that when you do get the ok to start cereal to sit up the baby and give it to him VERY watered down, mixed with formula.

my daughter was younger than that when i started putting cereal in her bottle. just start off slow. the box says 1 tablespoon for 4-5 ouncess, but i would give her a little less than that to begin with and see how she does with it. she will be fine, just take it slow and eventually he will start sleeping more and more during the night. my daughter is almost sleeping thru the night and she is 5 months old. she gets a table spoon per 4 ounces. and i give her a bottle of sugar water during the day, just for good measure help keep her digestive system going. well good luck!

no, i must tell you , you shouldn't. your baby is still very young, you shouldn't do that. it can cause your baby major problems. also they might have a stomache head or choking or any types of hazardous effects. mixing the cereal and formula isnt a good idea, because you dont know what the outcome will be and you wouldnt know if your baby can swallow it or not , so i would think about it and not do it.
