well last year i missed divisionals in swim team to go to peru for 15 days on a missions trip. this year i have practiced 2 times a week in swimming all year around. i am getting better and i am at the bottom of my age group, i just turned 13, and i will swim against huge people, but i hope to get better during the summer. i dont have much time to make up my mind, and once i go one way, i want to go the other. i really enjoyed peru, but i am afraid i will be sad if i go down there because i want to be here swimming. i know if i want to be safe from being sad i should stay, but i also want to see everybody and have fun down there. please help me decide!

Trust me, I quit swimming around your age and now I totally regret that choice due to wanting to try other sports and I was really good at it, if I were in your position I would stay and swim.

You need to check your priorities. You can either swim a meet and possibly place or you could change people's lives for the better. No contest! You are young and divisionals come every year. But the lives you change and the people you meet are a once-in-a-lifetime thing.

You only swim twice a week so you are obviously not a hardcore competitive swimmer. Taking 15 days off from swimming is not going to be a career killer or stop you from qualifying for JOs or something.

If I had the opportunity that you do, I would go on the mission trip in a second! You will make a MUCH bigger difference down there than you will by staying up here. Be excited about this opportunity, you're about to change some lives!!!

Good luck ( =

They both sound like a lot of fun. However, I would really consider going to Peru. It sounds like an incredible opportunity and a lot of fun. Do they have divisionals once or twice a year where you live? Will there be other meets similar to this before next summer? Since you are at the bottom of your age group, you still have a lot of time. You mentioned you want to get better. If you start practicing 3 to 4 days per week now, you will improve faster. Then when you take a few weeks off in the summer, it won't affect your swimming as much.

Perhaps you should make a list of pros and cons. Figure out which is more important to you and why. Be clear on your goals and what you want to accomplish and why. Although divisionals are fun, I think going to Peru would be more adventurous. Also, have you already qualified for events at divisionals or are you trying to get qualifying times? How will you feel if you don't qualify and miss out on going to Peru?

My advice is to do what you want and have no regrets. There is no wrong decision. Be happy with whatever you choose and don't spend time thinking you made the wrong decision. Good luck!

Well first you should try praying about it, it is a missions trip, and honestly I think you would find it more fulfilling on a missions trip. You can always swim, Just think about it, you could be changing peoples lives forever on a missions trip.
