The State tree of Ohio is the Buckeye tree and when the University was established in 1870, they gave them the nickname the Buckeyes, then in 1965 The Ohio State University introduced Brutus the buckeye, a student wearing a headpiece in the shape of a buckeye nut.

If you walk from the campus to the football arena/field, you will see alot of trees. Those are buckeye trees and you can pick little buckeyes up off the ground. That is where we get our football and basketball athletes from, the buckeye nuts. They incubate them and a great athlete is born to play at the University! No, not really. Just adding on about the state tree thing. Ohio is the "buckeye state".
