I think their should be one but there won't anytime soon.

The BCS brings in way to much money to schools and conferences. It is a money maker and that is what it is about. All of the bowls are based on making money period.
They want the highest profile schools that draw the biggest television audience to their bowl games and a playoff system would take away from that.

Everybody has addressed the money. Fooey on all you greedy guns. This question is excellent.

The BCS can't work with all the I-A teams that play football. It would become a 16-game war of attrition as opposed to just playing 12 or 13 games a year.

The Boise States and Marshalls never get to stock up on top recruits like the greed-filled Notre Dames and Florida States, so ultimately a playoff just feeds the biggest schools instead of having a Cinderella-like NCAA basketball tourney entry.

As a Mountain West fan, I power vomit at the thought of essentially creating a "premiere league" with the bigger schools/conferences having all the advantages. Here's to the underdogs winning another big one!

Money, money, money. It is about the money, but how would a playoff system work for Div. 1A? There are too many teams, and too many conferences. You can't just use ranked teams, because some conference champs aren't ranked. You can't just use conference champs, because some ranked teams are 2 or 3 in their conference. Also, how many teams would be in? More than 8, and we're looking at a lot of games to play. Unlike basketball or baseball, football teams can really only play once a week. Until a fair system can be brought in, we just have to go with the flawed system in place now.

The bottom line in college football is money. The NCAA is the only governing agency in sports that does not have to pay its athletes. Sure they get all kinds of benefits but any money generated by their hard work goes to the universities and the NCAA.

The best way to get that money is to put teams that travel well in bowl games. What that means is teams with a large fan base will be invited to bowl games because their fans will follow and spend money. I hate to break it to you but Boise State's fan base barely fills their own stadium, let alone a major one.

Playoffs don't fit into the scheme of things because the NCAA would have to spend a little bit of their huge annual profits to fly teams around and provide for them for a couple more weeks a year. The last thing the NCAA wants to do is spend its own money.

Because the NCAA makes too much money off the bowl system to give it up! I say have a 16 team playoff involving the best teams records against the strongest schedules using the BCS formula to rank them. Include mid major schools and independents as long as they have at least 4 "quality" wins and use the biggest bowl sites as playoff sites!

It is about the money and then no it's not. The question is where would you hold these games and how would you set up a system. Sure it sounds like a good idea, but towns that hold the BCS games make a ton of money from them and will do anything to keep them where they are. The BCS contract is about to run out, so we can all see what will happen when it does. The Playoff question will come up but I doubt we will ever see it.

The presidents of the universities of the schools in the big 6 conferences (ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big XXII, Pac-10 and SEC) and their respective commisoners care too much about money and television time. They think that early round playoff games won't make as much money as the championship game. And I think the public likes it to be honest with you so that they have something to debate about all year long with all the what ifs.

Its all about the MONEY. These big schools (USC, Ohio State, Oklahoma) want to make as much money as possible. And that can only happen by playing in a bowl game.

All of college football has a playoff system already. The only exception is division 1 and it is about time they change it, there is no reason they can't change it.

Because of the money. I think there should be a playoff between the top six or eight teams.
