Seems like ...as a US citizen ..... I sometimes feel national pride during things like the olympics .... but ... I also sometimes feel pride in my heritage ... being of Italian, Belgium, Norwegian grandparents .... And sometimes during specific conflicts I feel torn as to what side to take. Mainly, I feel very neutral .... as if I'm just a citizen of the world and could do without nationalism. How do you feel ??

I'm a human being. Thats all.

I think nationalism and patriotism are divisive, and overall negative things. Anything thats devisive like that, political parties, racism, sexism, etc is not a good thing in my opinion. They just further divide the human race and set us up against one another.

I am:

A Bostonian by upbringing and good luck.
A Texan by choice.
An American Citizen by very good luck of the draw.
AND a citizen of the world.

I can be all of these things without negating any of them. While the USA is not perfect, it is the only country that I want to live in. I've studied a lot about other countries, and this is the one that I would choose if I were given a choice.

At the same time, I am a member of the entire human race, and the world is also my home. I have a responsibility to the planet, to the other people I share it with, to the future generations who will inhabit it, to try to keep it a decent place to live and be. A place that is ideally free of bull, free of hatred and prejudice, filth and pollution, disease and famine, despair and sorrow.

I am not an Athenian or a Greek, but a citizen of the world.
And the world's an awful lot smaller and more inter-dependent than it was when Socrates first voiced that noble sentiment.

I love this country (the U.S). Despite it's faults, it's still a very great country. I was born in Germany so there's part of me that loves Europe as well. I think I'd be proud to live in any country I chose to live in and that was free. Just about every place has it's good points and aspects to be proud of.
