One of the biggest is the Insurance lobby, its sole purpose is to protect its billions in profits by blocking Universal Health Care.

Interest groups are there for their own interest! Giving money to a candidate that agrees with them or getting one to listen with a very large donation. I think most candidates don't want there donations if they are trying to persuade them in anyway, but with the very high cost of campaigns these donations sometimes make it possible or even the very reason the candidate continued running being a major figure or even winning.

Oil companies lobby for less taxes and grants for exploration. Timber companies lobby for less regulations to harvest timber. Tobacco companies want to keep legislation for growing and to get money to not grow. Jews lobby for Israel to exist and for money to help the government. Milk companies lobby for subsidies for the farmers. Farmers lobby for crop rotation and money to help small farms survive. Doctors lobby for better regulations on law suits. Cab drivers lobby for better rates you name it there is some kind of lobby that will address your business. The pork keeps flowing. The strongest groups keep health care so expensive you can not pay for it on an average income. Lobby groups can be good but more often than not the the biggest pockets speak the loudest. If you raise peanuts you want to have a spokesman for your interest.. if you are retarded there is a lobbyist for you.

Interest groups lobby for the purpose of getting favorable grants from the executive department and friendly legislation from Congress to serve what they want in society to happen.

Labor Unions, Agriculture, Insurance, Medical, Credit Cards, ranchers (including shrimpers, & fisheries), developers, - Just about you name it.
There purpose is to get special favors and benefit from the "pork" spending and welfare to the rich.
