Jerry West closely followed by Bird
West's career averages are 27 points a game, 6.7 assists, 5.8 rebounds and was a first team all defender
and this was before 3 pointers

Hey Man in the Yellow Hat,
The best that i've ever seen is Larry Bird. However, i've watched a lot of tape of Jerry West and Pistol Pete Maravich.
I would probably go with Pistol Pete because he wasn't surrounded with the talent that Bird and West had. He was a prolific ball handler and the guy averaged 44 points a game one year in college- just unheard of.
Here's the case for Jerry West: Best defender of the three. Had an all-around game and for goodness sake the NBA logo is Jerry.
Larry Bird: Him and Magic revolutionized basketball in the '80s. Larry was probably the most clutch of the three and i think what's awesome is that he would talk trash with the brotha's...
Slightly i'd go with Pistol Pete- but all three have a great argument.

1. Larry Bird - great passer for a big guy, great shooter, good rebounder, fierce competitor. 3 mvp and 3 championships (I think).
2. Jerry West - The NBA logo is made with his sillouette. Nuff said!
3. Steve Nash - Just about the best passer ever. 2 time MVP (maybe 3). If he wins a championship or two, he'll move to #2.
4. Kevin McHale - This guy had the most unstoppable shot in the history of basketball. He'd up and under you to death. Honestly, I don't know why no one has ever tried to emulate his game.
5. Dirk Nowitzki - His offense is similar to Birds. He's taller and more agile. Not as good a passer, though. It's great that he's a tall guy who can play outside, but he has almost no game inside.

To me, it's a toss-up among the aforementioned Bird, Maravich, Stockton, and West. Maybe we can add Nowitzki to this discussion when his career is done, but he's not on their level yet (although he's already above every other white player, including Walton).
My personal preference is Bird, but you can't go wrong with Maravich, Stockton, or West when talking about the greatest white player in NBA history.

definitely larry "legend" bird! take a look back at history and he is hands down one of the greatest players ever, regardless of color... the year before he entered the nba,the celts were a mediocre team and the year he entered he transformed them into one of the most dominant teams in the 80s.. he isnt just a good player,he is a winner!

John Stockton.
If Jason Kidd played for 6 more years averaging 10 assist a game he would still not pass Stockton !!

it's a toss up between larry bird and jerry west. I mean come on the frickin' nba logo is west's silhouette. That's notoriety is reserved for the greats (like we all recognize mike's silhouette)

Bird, Walton, Havlicek, Cousy, Stockton, and the sixth man as usual Bobby Jones. This would match up pretty good with other teams
