I like to use a single edged razor blade. Be careful.

im an automotive artist and painter. dont use laquer thinner. it can erode the paint or oem finish if it sits too long im assuming you want to take of the pinstipe decal that most car lots put on. u can use a razorblade to start pealing it (be careful not to cut the paint job) a hair dryer works BUT dont put it right on the car keep it 6-8 inches away or more (all your doing with the hair dryer is trying to heat up the glue of the decal so its more pliable and you can start pulling it off with your fingers. soap and water are very useful. a body shop has a rubber will they put on a tool and they essentially rub it off. if u havent done this before just use your fingernail and maybe some tape (so you can tape the backside of the decal once you have it started. this is the hmm technical part dont pull hard try and pull the decal off at a 45 degree angle (honestly i never looked into why its eaiser to pull them off this way its just worked for me for 15 years) you want consistent preassure when pulling (if you can get it to pull off in big pieces) the vinly is going to break off 100 times just keep at it. remember if you scratch the paint alot with a razorblade then well sorry man you gave me job security. napa should have a glue remover i think that stuff made from oranges works pretty good. it seems like it takes along time so get your jams on grab a beer or ice tea and make a day of it (its boring)
ps
alot of times the decal is starting to peal up on any open edge such as a door hood or trunk. good place to start. and if you do buy a solvent

read the label to see if it will hurt the paint job. stay away from anything with methelene chloride (u really should not have to worry about this at all) acetone, laquer thinner, and such. and just for fyi to the other people making comments go throw an egg on your car and let it sit for 24 hours then write a string back why you cant get the mark out. (you have to repaint it)
