How about it already being prophecised long before in the scriptures. It is refered to as the New Roman Empire. A single currency was definately the first step and it will probably happen sooner than most think.

Remember when the USA was formed, the states remained as their own separate entities for quite some time. It took a huge event (civil war) but we became one and Europe will too. It will take a while for them to think of themselves as European over being French, German, or what ever. It was the same in the US (Virginian, Texan, etc.). We still hold the identity when talking to each other, but outside of the US we are all Americans.

I believe it is already happening but is years away from being successful. This is the intrinsic problem with the EU: it is easy to agree to in theory but in reality it is unrealistic. For the EU to work a country must be willing to act in its detriment for the better of another. For instance, I live in Pennsylvania and think nothing when my Federal taxes are used to rebuild New Orleans. This is because the states while independent in some ways are subservient to the Federal government. It is also because in the end we are all united under one national identity. Apply the same principal to Europe. Will the British pay excessive taxes to build bridges in France. Ultimately, no. Why, because they do not have the concept of one national identity and the power allocated of the EU does not outweigh that of the UK.

European countries can unite in order to have a cooperative organization for mutual benefits and trade. Thus, United States of Europe - UAE is possible.

Ilke,
That's the idea behind it, but it couldn't happen all the way because of the language barriers. Making the Euro the common currency was a big step, though.

I hope not - neo-communist leftists control the EU and want to destroy the cultures of the member states...

See the way they treat England - forcing them to give up their traditional weights and measures... Is like the largest empire the world has ever seen has been turned into a third rate vassal state...

Bad for the Europeans, bad for the rest of the world...

It sends chills down my spine and makes me jitter to think of that endeavor. Those high nose buffoons cannot even control their internal Islamic uprising and they think they are better then the US. I totally disagree with that arrangement - being allies is sufficient for the US and we need no more unions, period.

I hope that our constitution would be better than Americas, so a disaster like Bush and his executive orders (marching the US towards a perminant police state) never happens here.

That was the whole point of creating the EU, to compete with the US.
