how can i make it not as strong
so my fish are not always swimming?

It sounds like they are still too young for a full power filter. A sponge filter is the best bet. I generally stick with a sponge filter until they are about 3 months or so.

When my Fire Mouth Cichlids gave birth, I put the babies in a tank without a filter for a while (when they were really small). babies aren't that messy, and as long as you take care to clean the tank every now and then, they should be okay for a little while. I don't think my fish minded swimming against the current....it makes them strong. :)

cover the inlet with sponge..that will protect your fish from going into the filter & also can reduce the strong flow.

You need to get a sponge filter. Look it up

just turn the face of the filter outlet to the bottom of the tank
