BIOS is the Basic Input Output System stored in a chip on the Motherboard.
It is the program that runs all those nice B&W screens BEFORE the regular OS, like windows, starts.
It USUALLY tells you ON SCREEN how to get to the BIOS, and is most commonly the "del" key. Your manual or the computers customer service people can tell you how to get there if it is not.
When you get there, you will have a series of screens with various settings that can be changed. BE VERY CAREFUL OF WHAT YOU CHANGE, and be SURE to make a record of ALL settings BEFORE you change them so that you can reset them if you make a mistake. (A mistake MAY stop your computer from starting beyond the BIOS screens!!)
BEST choice is to get someone who KNOWS what they are doing to do it for you.

BIOS, in computing, stands for Basic Input/Output System. BIOS refers to the firmware code run by an IBM compatible PC when first powered on. The primary function of the BIOS is to prepare the machine so other software programs stored on various media (such as hard drives, floppies, and CDs) can load, execute, and assume control of the PC. This process is known as booting up.
This is NOT something the average user can easily find or figure out how to use. You can do some serious damage when you don't know what you are doing. The BIOS is reached by tapping the delete key, or sometimes F1 or F2, when the computer first starts to boot up, until it reaches a blue screen with a number of instruction panels. From there, you are on your own.

Your finger print reader might not work. Accessing the BIOS requires to press a specific before the computer begins starting up. Which key depends on your brand of laptop.

BIOS is "Basic Input/Output System"
BIOS is the fundamental level of your computer's operation. This is the basic programing permanently etched into the computer's hardware at manufacture.
The BIOS functions that you can change (or even see) are generally available to you when you boot up your computer - you should have a specified key sequence (usually one of the -f- keys or some combination of -break- -esc- or -f- (function keys). When you first turn your computer on, You may see an instruction on your screen as to which keys(s) to press -to enter BIOS (or setup) without booting-up to operation status/mode.

as others have said the owner manual for your laptop will tell you what key gets to bios , it often displays on the screen (like press esc now for Bios)
If the instructions told you what to check then do it carefully .
There is an option to save and exit , or exit without saving . If you are not sure if you changed the correct thing then choose exit without saving . You will have to try to do it again later.
